Species - Melocanna

MELOCANNA is a genus of tropical, clumping bamboo similar to Bambusa. Culms erect. Very open habit determined by long-necked rhizomes.

Edible fruits (not necessarily palatable) are pear-shaped and large for bamboo, reaching 5" long and 3" in diameter. Thin-walled. Clump habit very open. Leaves are used in brewing liquor. Tabashir may be found in culms.
